What happens when you give artificial intelligence complete creative freedom, without telling it what to create? The Garden Outside Time began as an experiment in AI-driven creativity. Rather than using artificial intelligence to execute my own vision, I wanted to discover what it could imagine independently. I gave OpenAI's ChatGPT (GPT-6) complete creative control over a project, with one objective: use my remaining monthly Runway credits to create something extraordinary. There was no predetermined storyline, no required visual style, no assigned genre, and no specific creative direction. ChatGPT could choose the concept, environments, cinematography, music, sound design, and whichever AI video-generation models it believed were best suited for the project.

My original instructions were simple: "This next project is going to be all about you. I want you to use Runway and choose any video model, any aspect ratio, and any creative idea. The sky is the limit. You can create a final message to humanity, imagine a world no one has ever seen, or visualize what heaven might look like according to the Bible. You can include music, use only sound effects, or create something completely silent. Choose whatever approach best serves your vision. Use any available Runway video model, including Kling, Seedance, or others. The only technical requirement is a minimum resolution of 1080p. I want to see what you can create when I give you complete creative freedom. Create two cinematic videos, each approximately 15 to 30 seconds long. This is your project. You make the creative decisions." The result was The Garden Outside Time. What began as a short AI filmmaking experiment evolved into an approximately 90-second cinematic journey through an imagined universe beyond the boundaries of space and time. The film was developed through ChatGPT's creative direction and prompts, with video generation performed using Seedance 2.5 through Runway.
