ABOUT
Oddly Familiar is a visual meditation and personal timestamp. Created in 2025, as AI imagery raced toward photorealism, it returned me to what first drew me to the medium: uncanny, impossible worlds. At a time when “AI slop” had become a broad label for nearly everything made with these tools, the film offered a deliberate counterargument grounded in curiosity and intention. Built from images generated over the preceding years through The Invisible Realm, it preserves the artifacts and strangeness of early AI image-making as a record of a specific moment in the technology’s evolution. The images were set in motion and paired with a generative soundtrack and an original meditative poem.

PROCESS
Because this was an experimental film rather than a narrative production, I did not track a conventional generated, kept, and discarded ratio. I created more than 100 images, some belonging to larger series and others emerging from isolated explorations. Near the end of 2025, I wrote the poem as a personal reflection while developing the music in parallel. Animating a selection of the images around those two elements came naturally. The process was closer to a cathartic, meditative exercise than a film built around a predetermined narrative or cohesive theme.
