Music video for THE HEIGHTS by NoBanks Nearby. 9:16, 1080x1920, 24fps. Every shot generated in Runway, then assembled by a beat-locked cutter I wrote in Python against a librosa beat grid. Eleven sections, each declaring its own cut rate, so the edit breathes with the song instead of running at one constant tempo: eight beats per shot through the opening, tightening to two where the track drives hardest, and holding sixteen on the final section. Cuts land on exact beat timestamps rather than near them.
PROCESS
THE HEIGHTS is 9:16, 1080x1920, 24fps, built in about thirteen hours from first Runway generation to finished master. The song goes through librosa first for a beat grid. The storyboard splits it into eleven sections and each section declares its own cut rate, which is the part I care most about: eight beats per shot through the opening so it can breathe, tightening to two where the track drives hardest, then holding sixteen on the closing section so the end lands instead of stuttering. Cuts fall on exact beat timestamps, not near them. Nothing is eyeballed to the music. Two rules are enforced in code rather than in the edit. No shot ever repeats: every slot in the EDL consumes a unique clip exactly once and the build hard errors if there are fewer clips than cuts. And shots whose motion is a steady mechanical cycle get retimed so one cycle equals a whole number of beats, so the motion itself sits on tempo instead of drifting against it. Rendered through h264_videotoolbox. Audio is stream copied from my original master and never re-encoded, because it is my song and a second encode costs quality for nothing. On 24fps: a lot of AI work gets rendered at 30 and called filmic, which is a contradiction. Frame rate is part of the language, not a setting. I shot broadcast and brand work from 2008 and I bring that eye to generated footage.
