ABOUT
A short cinematic proof-of-concept for an expandable Qantas children’s adventure series, using the existing Joey Club characters to turn the real experience of flying somewhere new into a gentle story about curiosity, nerves and wonder. The important distinction is that Joey Club Adventures is the larger world/series concept. The video is the trailer or proof-of-concept that demonstrates what that world feels like.

PROCESS
The process started with Qantas's existing Joey Club characters. Rather than redesigning them, every iteration aimed to preserve their identity while translating them into believable handcrafted plush companions. That meant rejecting hundreds of outputs that drifted toward glossy CG animation or generic toy aesthetics, and instead locking every material decision: woven linen-cotton canvas, visible stitching, embroidered eyes, fabric construction and real-world scale. The environments followed the opposite rule. The Qantas world remained completely real. Airports, hangars, jet bridges and aircraft were treated as photographic locations, while the characters stayed genuinely tiny. That contrast became the emotional language of the project. Every image was developed through iterative art direction, using previous generations as reference rather than starting over. Character proportions, materials, expressions, lighting, camera height and environmental scale were continually refined until the world felt internally consistent. By the end, the work resembled a miniature live-action production more than traditional animation. The result is less a collection of AI images than a documented creative development process: building a coherent cinematic world one decision at a time.
