ABOUT
Take That, "Sweet July". For the band's official music video, director Vaughan Arnell and Merman wanted Gary, Mark and Howard to start as a live rock trio and then tumble through four hand-made comic and animation worlds. I joined Rohtau's European VFX team as AI Artist and worked on the tactile, layered paper collage sections: torn newsprint, halftone, scribbles and stars, built around the real performance so the band stays recognisable in every frame.

PROCESS
The brief was clear: it had to feel handmade, never like a filter. Frame-by-frame video style transfer failed that test, because the models ignored the collage references and drifted every frame. So I went back to how stop motion actually works. I cut the live-action plates into hero frames on twos and threes, rebuilt each one as a paper collage with Nano Banana Pro and reassembled them into stop motion at 25 fps. Two problems had to be solved on the way. Faces drifted when a style reference fed its own features into the band members, so every frame was restyled from the plate alone with a strict scale and identity lock. And the background strobed because every frame re-collaged from scratch, so each new frame was chained to the previous one as a reference, letting the collage evolve instead of flicker. Alongside that I built a library of textured collage backgrounds for the compositing team.
